The Master in Sustainable Environmental Engineering and Law (SEEL) is a Master’s diploma with two degrees encompassing environmental engineering, geography sciences and environmental law. Its objective is to enable students to acquire comprehensive multidisciplinary skills, both theoretical and practical. These are further enhanced by learning methodologies and practical skills (research training, complex project management). The SEEL Master’s programme is a dual-degree offering that allows students to earn two prestigious diplomas: one in Law from Université Paris Cité and another in Geography from Sorbonne Université.
The SEEL Masters programme provides students with a unique and comprehensive approach to addressing environmental challenges. It equips them with the knowledge and tools to identify sustainable management strategies for the conservation of ecosystems and resources, such as energy, water, food, and biodiversity, while understanding how these strategies are integrated within legal frameworks. This programme offers an in-depth analysis of the intricate relationship between humans and the environment, from both legal and spatial perspectives, preparing students to become leaders in the field of environmental sustainability.
The programme offers a multidisciplinary approach to environmental management, complemented by practical and applied courses. Students develop strong analytical skills to assess the environmental impact of global business and socio-economic forces. They are also encouraged to engage actively in projects and workshops, and to maintain ongoing dialogue with faculty members and regional or international experts. This interaction supports the exploration of effective strategies to address sustainability challenges in the UAE, the GCC region, and internationally.
Students will also learn how to work with big data management and environmental monitoring, as well as interpret data using advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) methods and techniques. Upon completion of this Master’s programme, students will be equipped to master the processes involved in the development of norms and public policies, conduct in-depth analyses of contemporary issues related to sustainable development through the implementation of existing legal frameworks, and apply legal reasoning to other fields of study or environmental challenges.
Throughout this programme, future leaders in environmental sustainability have the opportunity to maximise their skills and career potential to complement the UAE’s rapid and ambitious progress.
The courses are delivered by professors from Sorbonne Université and Université Paris Cité, along with renowned professionals and visiting lecturers who are experts in their respective fields. Courses are generally interactive, and every professor provides additional materials to aid in learning. This master’s programme is supported by the Departments of Geography and Planning, and Law, Economics and Management.
