The MSc program in Economics will equip you to address challenging economic problems and provide you with excellent tools to pursue careers in both the public and private sector.
During the first semester, the focus is on the theory and empirical methods of economics. The courses are designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of state-of-the-art models and techniques used in economic analysis.
In the second semester, focus shifts to applications and extensions. This part builds on the skills acquired during the first semester, and broadens and deepens your knowledge of economics.
In the second year of the MSc program in Economics, you take additional coursework (30 ECTS) and complete your Master's thesis (30 ECTS). You may continue with advanced economics courses, select courses from other MSc programs at SSE, or pursue one of the specialized tracks: the Sustainability Track or Data Analytics Track.
All second-year MSc in Economics students also have the opportunity, subject to certain conditions, to take first-year PhD courses in economics as electives within their degree.
You can also apply for a semester abroad at one of SSE’s partner universities, or gain hands-on experience through the Executive Trainee Module (XTM) by working with one of our corporate partners.
Furthermore, you may be eligible to pursue a prestigious double degree with the University of St. Gallen, Sciences Po, or enrol in the CEMS Master in International Management (MIM) program. MSc in Economics students can also apply to the Wallenberg International Fellows Program, a unique opportunity that combines academic studies with international leadership development.
