A very attractive side to studying a Masters in Engineering is that it opens up possibilities for different careers in various industries. Perhaps this can be explained with the idea that engineers are able to find solutions for many of society’s needs when it comes to machines, structures or buildings. Course content

The Masters courses will be quite advanced and will certainly be based on subjects such as mathematics or physics depending on the programme. Admission requirements

The admission process for postgraduate Engineering programmes can differ between universities, meaning that some have more demanding requirements than others. You will certainly need to present a Bachelor’s degree which is successfully completed (or soon to be completed) and is relevant to your desired Masters. Note that your GPA can also play a role during the university’s selection. In addition, some programmes may require between one and three years of previous work experience. Do not worry too much if you are not there yet – plenty of courses will not ask you to meet this specific requirement. If the programme of your choice is taught in English and you are not a native English speaker, you will have to prepare your results from an English proficiency test as well. Taking GRE Subject Tests relevant to the field of specialisation is often a requirement or can give applicants an advantage. Make sure to check these points for different programmes once you have narrowed down your search.

The possibilities are significantly more numerous and depend on your specialisation. Of course, career development in the field also varies with regards to job market changes in different regions. According to Business Insider and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), engineering jobs are currently commanding high pay in any of the field’s sub-disciplines. Although the picture seems to be slightly more difficult for recent graduates and some employers have reported a shortage of skills in the candidate pool, schools and governments have taken measures to keep education up to speed with the developments on the job market.
