Northeastern University London - New College of the Humanities
Based in the heart of London, Northeastern University London (Northeastern University London) has developed a reputation for delivering an excellent university experience, and has exceeded all Russell Group universities for overall student satisfaction in the UK’s National Student Survey for four consecutive years (NSS 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022). Small by design, Northeastern University London offers a vibrant, collegiate community delivering broad and academically rigorous degree programmes, designed to equip graduates with the combination of skills and knowledge that are increasingly desired by organisations, employers and society. Following the grant of Taught Degree Awarding Powers in February 2020, the University is expanding its portfolio by developing interdisciplinary degree programmes, which combine its emphasis on the humanities with the exploration of complementary scientific subjects. Northeastern University London is part of Northeastern University’s Global Campus Network. Ranked #44 in the USA, Northeastern has campuses in Arlington, Boston, Charlotte, Oakland, San Jose, and Seattle in the USA, and Toronto and Vancouver in Canada.

How to Apply

The College welcomes applications from candidates who have attained upper second class honours in their undergraduate degree or an international equivalent.

We encourage applications from candidates who have studied a wide range of subjects at undergraduate level, as we recognise the interdisciplinary nature of studying the humanities and social sciences and the insights that students of different disciplines including the natural sciences can bring.

We also accept applications from mature students who have been out of education for a while, if they can demonstrate relevant professional experience or equivalent qualifications, together with the potential to thrive as a postgraduate student at NCH.

Each application will be assessed on an individual basis through their application, a reference and a personal statement.

Step 1 | Start an online application here

Postgraduate applications should be made directly to the College through our online application form. We accept applications on a rolling basis. Here, you’ll find our online application form, with details of how to start, save and complete it.

Providing you have already written your personal statement, it usually
takes 20 minutes to complete the form.

Your personal statement should cover the following areas:

  • Why do you want to study your chosen course?
  • What are your interests and how do they relate to your subject area (you might want to mention books you have read or ideas you would especially like to explore)?
  • Why is NCH the right place for you to study?
  • What are your future plans and career aspirations?

You can write up to 4,000 characters showing us why you would be a great student at NCH.

Step 2 | Your reference

Your appointed Admissions Adviser will ask you for a referee’s name and contact details. Your referee should be someone who has taught or worked closely with you in an academic or professional context within the past two years.

Step 3 | Your interview

The interview is not designed to be a test of your knowledge but is an opportunity for you to meet an academic from your subject area in a one-to-one setting similar to a dissertation supervision meeting, in order to assess your candidacy.  The interview will be an informal discussion where the academic tutor will ask questions to find out more about you, your reasons for applying and your areas of interest.  You will also have the opportunity to ask the academic tutor any questions you may have about the programme.

Step 4 | Your offer

Within a few weeks of your admissions interview, we will let you know informally, whether we will make you an offer. Your formal offer pack will follow.

The NCH alumni network

At New College of the Humanities, we’re proud to be at the heart of a community of brilliant, entrepreneurial and enthusiastic graduates, academics and professionals who together make up the NCH alumni. The NCH alumni network demonstrates that the experience of joining a small, intimate college not only renders life-long bonds with peers and faculty, but also provides the foundation for global partnerships and cooperation.

Events

The College organises drinks for its alumni on a quarterly basis. These usually take place at a pub local to the College, and one that alumni may have frequented during their student days. In addition, an annual alumni reunion party is held at the College during the spring. We encourage graduates and staff to join us at drinks evening and alumni parties.

These events provide a relaxed opportunity for alumni to catch up with old friends and to meet and network with the wider NCH family.
