Algebra Buddy Program is a project that aims to assign incoming international students with their buddies – local students willing to help them settle into their new home during their first semester at Algebra. Buddies can help international students explore Zagreb, reveal tips and tricks about studying at Algebra, and above all, have fun while hanging together. The International Office staff meets with buddies on a regular basis and connects new students with their buddies, and also supports their activities.

Student learning support;

Student learning support is available in form of:

  1. Additional free courses in areas where students experience problems (such as first year courses like Maths, Programming, Physics,…). Support in form of organized teaching (in most cases 2 hours per week per course) is delivered by good students enrolled in higher years of the study program. Such peer support provides good results according to our records, and this current approach is the result of past attempts to help students in need with the support of our teachers and assistants, which did not provide as good results as they are now.
  1. Mentorship support being part of psychological profiling and mentoring described in more details in point “6. Induction and orientation” of this document. Still, many of the support topics are in fact closely related to learning support.
  1. All teachers are obliged to be available to students for their questions at least one hour per week per course in form of “consultations”. These are organized in vivo and students in most cases individually approach teacher. Date and time of consultations are not set in advanced but students should arrange them with mentors. Within students surveys we regularly check if any student had problems in reaching teacher timely for consultations.
  1. Pre recorded material – many teachers are preparing numerous pre-recorded video teaching materials and these are available to students within our LMS system (Moodle) or Infoeduka repository of learning and teaching materials. Although teachers are not obliged to do so, they are stimulated financially to support students in “numerous and innovative ways”, so many are trying to provide as many high quality resources as possible. These resources support students in obtaining required knowledge within their courses.
  1. Additional learning resources and additional courses are required from master level students applying from other programs and institutions in order for them to gather knowledge needed for successful studying. These approaches in most cases could be called “pre-semester” and are either delivered as live / on-line live teaching and examination or using digital learning content, live mentorship and examination. Sometimes project approaches are being used.
